Arsenal were set to allow Granit Xhaka leave for AS Roma this summer but the deal was not completed with the the Swiss star will remain at the Emirates.

Though Roma were not able to sign Xhaka, they have set their eyes on Lucas Torreira who is surplus to requirement at Arsenal as under Mikel Arteta.

Torreira spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid and Arsenal are open to moving him on before the end of the transfer window.

A new report from Italy has now claimed that Jose Mourinho is willing to sign Torreira on a season long loan deal as he continues his rebuilding process at Roma.

Roma have already brought in Tammy Abraham from Chelsea on a permanent deal and are eager to add Torreira to their squad.

Torreira played his part in Atletico Madrid’s La Liga win last season and his experience in the Seria A means he won’t have problem adapting to the league.

Arsenal have already moved on from Torreira as they are set to add another midfielder to their squad, Real Madrid’s Martin Odegaard will be announced in the next few hours.
