Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has applauded the club’s former boss Arsene Wenger as the club unveiled a statue in his name

Arsenal are making headlines after they unveiled a statue of Wenger that will be placed outside the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta in his statement about the Frenchman recounted how he allowed him to play for the Gunners and made him the captain of the north London side.

Arteta was signed by Wenger during the Spaniard’s time as a footballer.

“With a statue now at the stadium, Arsene can have that recognition and be here at our club forever” Arteta said, according to Metro.

“I’m so grateful to have played for Arsene at this club in my career.

“He chose me to be one of his players and selected me to be the captain of the club and that’s something I will never forget.”
