Arteta addresses why Havertz didn’t take penalty Vs Donetsk
Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has reacted to his side’s performance in their recent outing in the Champions League.
The Gunners played against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night.
In a post-match statement, Arteta said he does not know why former Chelsea star Kai Havertz didn’t take the penalty against Shakhtar Donetsk during their encounter.
The North London club were already leading with one goal, thanks to an own goal from goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk, when a VAR check saw a spot-kick awarded for handball.
Instead of Havertz, Leandro Trossard stepped up to take the penalty kich which was saved by Riznyk.
After the game, Arteta during a press conference was asked if Havertz wanted to take the penalty.
The manager responded by saying he didn’t know about the conversation because the former Chelsea star is one of the takers but Trossard decided to take it.
“Okay, he missed it, that’s it unfortunately,” Arteta added.
Arsenal’s win against Donetsk comes after they their defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League last weekend.
The Gunners will now turn their attention to their next match against Liverpool in the EPL come weekend.
They will hope to maintain their form against the Reds.
