Azpilicueta eager to dethrone James after making first Premier League appearance in two-month
Chelsea might be celebrating their first win in three matches after their emphatic 3 – 1 win over West Ham United on Monday but club captain Cesar Azpilicueta is celebrating more than that.
The Spaniard was making his first Premier League appearance in two month and he made sure it was a memorable night as the Blues kept a clean sheet as well as winning all three points.
With Recce James currently out of the team due to an injury he sustained in training, Azpilicueta is eager to make use of the opportunity to dethrone the young England right-back who has become Lampard’s first choice ever since the season started.
Speaking to the club official website ahead of Chelsea’s boxing day clash with Arsenal, Cesar Azpilicueta stated that though he has been playing more in the Champions League, his job is to work hard to improve every day and, whenever the manager needs him to step up, he tries to offer his best.
Though James has not been ruled out of the game against Arsenal, Azpilicueta will be eager to feature against Mikel Arteta’s side that’s currently going through one of the toughest phase in the club history.
Chelsea are currently stuck in 5th place on the Premier League table while Arsenal are in 15th after a slow start to the season.
