No Messi? Lebouef names 2 players to compete for 2026 World Cup Golden Boot
Former Chelsea centre-back, Frank Lebouef, has shared his take about the Golden Boot winner at the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
Sharing his bold prediction, Lebouef ignored Argentina captain Lionel Messi from his list, naming only two players as his favourite to win the prestigious award.
As of now, Messi is the current leading top scorer for the Golden Boot with six goals to his name but Lebouef believes France’s Kylian Mbappe and England’s Harry Kane are the two players to compete for the Golden Boot ahead of the Argentine.
“The increased number of teams changes things,” Lebouef told BOYLE Sports.
“I don’t want to be overly harsh on nations like Curacao, Haiti, or Cape Verde, but the Golden Boot could easily be decided by someone scoring six or seven goals against those teams.”
He opined that if England and France both go deep in the tournament, Kane and Mbappe will be the only two to contest for the Golden Boot.
