David Ornstein Provides Fresh Update on Arsenal’s Interest in Sandro Tonali
Arsenal have been linked with a potential move for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, but fresh reports suggest Tottenham Hotspur remain the club pushing hardest to secure the Italian international’s signature this summer.
Tottenham are enjoying an ambitious transfer window as they look to rebuild under Roberto De Zerbi. After strengthening several areas of the squad with major additions, Spurs are now targeting a marquee midfield signing, with Tonali emerging as one of their top priorities.
The former AC Milan star has established himself as one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders since arriving at Newcastle. His ability to dictate play, break up opposition attacks and contribute in possession has made him one of the most sought-after players in his position.
Reports indicate Tottenham have already tested Newcastle’s resolve with a bid worth around £75 million, only for the offer to be rejected. Newcastle are understood to value Tonali significantly higher, with any deal potentially requiring a fee approaching £90 million.
Amid the speculation, questions have emerged over whether Arsenal could attempt to enter the race and hijack Tottenham’s pursuit. Mikel Arteta is believed to be keen on further strengthening his midfield options as Arsenal continue their efforts to compete for major honours both domestically and in Europe.
However, the latest update from respected journalist David Ornstein suggests there is currently no indication that Arsenal are actively preparing a move. While the Gunners admire top-level midfield talent, Tottenham remain the club most strongly associated with Tonali at this stage.
With Newcastle under no pressure to sell, any club hoping to land the Italy international is likely to face a difficult and expensive negotiation during the remainder of the transfer window.
