Manchester United Turn Attention to Fernandes and Scott After Cooling Interest in Nottingham Forest Midfielder
Manchester United appear ready to move on from their pursuit of Elliot Anderson, with reports suggesting the club is now focusing on midfield targets Mateus Fernandes and Alex Scott.
Anderson has attracted significant interest this summer, but Manchester City’s reported £120 million bid has changed the landscape of the race for the Nottingham Forest star. While United have admired the midfielder for some time, they are unwilling to enter a costly bidding war with their local rivals.
Instead, United are prioritising players who are keen to join the club and fit into Michael Carrick’s long-term plans. Mateus Fernandes and Alex Scott have emerged as two of the club’s preferred alternatives as they look to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new season.
Fernandes, who impressed for West Ham last season, is already the subject of discussions between the clubs. However, any deal could prove difficult, with the Hammers reportedly valuing the Portuguese midfielder at around £80 million. His performances since arriving from Southampton have made him one of the most sought-after young midfielders in the Premier League.
Scott remains another player firmly on United’s shortlist. The former Bristol City midfielder is highly regarded for his technical ability, versatility, and potential for future development.
With Anderson believed to favour a move to Manchester City, United appear determined to avoid an expensive transfer battle and instead focus on securing players who are fully committed to the club’s project.
