Why EPL champions suffered embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Tottenham
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reacted to his side’s 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur right at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Guardiola in a statement admitted his side was defensively fragile at the moment.
The English Premier League champions were embarrassed by a visiting Tottenham Hotspur side on Saturday.
Man City’s recent defeat to the Hotspurs make it their fifth consecutive loss ahead of next week’s trip to play league toppers Liverpool.
Tottenham won all three points thanks to goals from James Maddison, who scored twice in the first half, followed by goals from Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson.
Guardiola in a post-match statement via BBC Radio 5 Live, said Man City started really well as normal but were unable to score and then after that they conceded.
“After that we conceded some more which is difficult for our emotions right now,” he said.
Guardiola admitted that in eight years Man City have never suffered such a defeat.
He encouraged his side to accept the defeat and focus on breaking it by winning their next games, especially the their face off with league toppers Liverpool.
“Now we see things in one way, maybe in a few weeks we see it differently,” Guardiola added.
