UEFA Nations Lesgue: England interim coach addresses defeat to Greece

England’s interim coach, Lee Carsley has reacted to the Three Lions defeat to Greece in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday.

England hosted Greece at Wembley as the game ended in a 2-1 defeat for the English national team.

Carsley in a post-match statement suggested that Greece defeated his team because the Three Lions were the second best team during the encounter.

Recall that Vangelis Pavlidis gave Greece the lead before Jude Bellingham scored an equaliser for England few minutes later.

However, a second goal from Pavlidis towards the end of the match gave Greece the win over England at the Wembley Stadium.

Speaking via ITV,  Carsley said he thinks England were probably second best for most of the time during the match.

He suggested that the game against Greece was one of the set backs the Three Lions were going face, while adding that it’s important they respond well against Finland come Sunday.

“We tried something different, overload the midfield. You have experimented with it and we are disappointed it didn’t come off,” he said.

Meanwhile, England have suffered an injury blow ahead of their game against Finland as Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka is unlikely to be available for the match.
