Gonzola Higuain in a recent statement has spoken on why Arsenal signed Mesut Ozil and not him.

The Argentina international in a statement claimed the-then Gunners boss Arsene Wenger paid €80 million (£69m/$84m) to sign Ozil from Real Madrid within days of deeming him to be too expensive.

After the Gunners failed to sign Higuain, he went on to join Napoli, where he scored 91 goals across three seasons.

He told TyC Sports: “I remember that I was on the verge of going to Arsenal when I went to Napoli, but they said I was too expensive.

“And a few days later, they paid €80m for Ozil!”

However, in 2016, Arsenal got another opportunity to lure Higuain to the Premier League, but once the North London side were unable to put a deal in place and he ended up at Juventus.

Ozil on the hand has since left Arsenal under new manager Mikel Arteta, who refused to give him game time at Emirate stadium.
