Rangnick advises Man Utd on the kind of strikers to sign
Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has advised Manchester United to sign new strikers ahead of next season.
According to Rangnick, the Red Devils need to go for modern forwards who can play fluidly rather than old-fashioned number nines.
While Edison Cavani would be departing Man Utd at the end of this season, it appears Cristiano Ronaldo may remain at the club.
This comes as Ronaldo scored his 24th club goal of the season during their 3-0 win over Brentford.
The 37-year-old appeared to say he was not ‘finished’ at United in front of a camera on the pitch at full-time.
Aside from Cavani, the future of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are still in doubt.
Mason Greenwood remains unavailable for the Red Devils indefinitely.
Owing to this, Rangnick has advised the Red Devils to sign two new strikers, mentioning that they sign Manchester City Gabriel Jesus and Jack Grealish.
Rangnick said: “For me, it is obvious Manchester United needs two more quality strikers that just give this team more options, more quality and more weapons.”
When Rangnick was asked what he specifically meant, he added: “Strikers. Modern strikers do not necessarily have to be wingers. If you look to Liverpool or Manchester City and look at their strikers, they have five or six top-class strikers.
“Gabriel Jesus, until four or five weeks ago, he hardly played. Now he is playing again regularly and if you look at the number of players they have and ask me if Gabriel Jesus is a central striker or a winger, is Grealish a central striker or a winger, they are all strikers who can play in different positions, they can also switch and they can rotate.
“That kind of players, we don’t have that many. Mason Greenwood would have been one of those players who regularly played but then after the West Ham game he was no longer part of the squad.
“Martial was on loan at Sevilla, Edinson Cavani was injured most of the time so we didn’t have that many alternatives up front.”
