Arsenal and Liverpool returned to action in the EPL on Wednesday night, with the game ending in a 2-0 scoreline in favour of the Reds.

Reacting to the defeat, the Gunners manager Mikel Arteta said he is proud of how his side went head to head against Liverpool

Liverpool scored two goals in the first half thanks to the efforts of Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.

Arteta, in a post-match statement, said he is “proud” of how his team went “toe-to-toe” with the Reds for most of the game.

He said: “From box-to-box we were at the right level but in the boxes that’s where they won it.

“They had two big chances and scored.

“We didn’t. For the rest, we went toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the league right now.

“It was everything we talked about, the quality of it, the mentality, the intensity and the courage. Unfortunately, the result did not agree with the performance.”

Arsenal remain at the fourth spot on the league table but have the same points as Man Utd, who are at the 5th spot.
