There had been earlier reports which revealed Chelsea as one of the top clubs who have shown interest to sign Paul Tores from Europa Champions Villarreal.

Well, the Villarreal centre-back defender, in a recent statement, has revealed why he rejected the offers to move to the Premier League during the recent summer transfer window.

According to Tores, he wanted to spend at least one more season with the Spanish club.

Tores’ performances during the 2020-21 season were believed to have attracted the attention of top football clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

A report further claimed that the Hotspurs had reached an agreement with Villarreal for the Spanish defender, but Torres rejected the chance to move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He has also said he remains happy at Villarreal, which means clubs like Chelsea, Man City, and others will have to look elsewhere.

“In the end, I was more interested in playing in the Champions League with my local team. In a year when the national team has important challenges and, when you make changes, you don’t know how it will go,” Torres told reporters.

“From minute one, Villarreal told me they would respect whatever I decided. I am very happy at home. I have a contract until 2024, and whatever is best for everyone, we’ll see.”
