Chelsea vs Villarreal: UEFA confirms date and body

European football body, UEFA has confirmed the venue and date for the match between Chelsea and Spanish side, Villarreal in the Super Cup.

Recall that the Super Cup takes place every year between the winner of the Champions League and the Europa League.

Bayern Munich were winners of that of last season after they defeated Sevilla.

For this season it would be between Chelsea which defeated Man City in the UCL final and Villarreal which defeated Man Utd in the finals of the Europa League.

The reports revealed that Chelsea’s clash with Villarreal was supposed to be held in Belfast, Northern Ireland, but after Istanbul could not host the Champions League final for a second successive year due to the COVID-19 restrictions, there were speculations they would be handed the Super Cup.

However, the UEFA in a latest statement has declared that the venue remains Belfast.

The statement read, “The 2021 UEFA Super Cup final will be played at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park in Belfast on August 11.

“After recent speculation that the game would be switched to Istanbul, UEFA has today confirmed that the showpiece fixture between Champions League winners, Chelsea, and Europa League winners, Villareal, will remain in Northern Ireland.”
