Chelsea defender reveals defender he wants to emulate before retirement
Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has revealed his plans of emulating the legendary Paolo Maldini before he retires from active football.
At the age of 36 years, Thiago Silva is still showing his full potential with Chelsea as he’s currently on the team first list ahead of other young players in the club.
The former AC Milan defender has now opened up on his love for Paolo Maldini who he believes has motivated him ever since he began his career.
Silva joined AC Milan in 2009 but was unable to share the pitch with Paolo Maldini as the club legend Paolo Maldini retired that year at the age of 40 following a trophy-laden 25-year career at the San Siro.
Speaking in a latest interview Silva stated that those last six months of Maldini’s career were the six months when he had arrived at Milan and couldn’t play.
Silva noted that he identified a lot with Paulo and in this little interaction that he had with him, he could see that suddenly he was prepared well and could reach 40 years of age playing wherever he wanted, you know.
Not hiding his love and respect for Maldini, Silva added that the AC Milan legend is certainly somebody that he greatly admired.
Thiago Silva has retained his first-team spot under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea and does not look like someone will to drop his place.
