Manchester United have been handed a boost ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window as the recent report via The Times claimed they have reached an agreement on personal terms with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

The reports added that the Red Devils are set to settle on a transfer fee with the Toffees, who want £70 million for the 21-year-old England international.

This signing would be a significant addition for Man United, particularly following their minor shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s endorsement of Branthwaite as his top choice for a new central defender this summer.

Branthwaite attracted interest with his impressive form at Everton, having already hit 54 appearances since joining the first team.

It was also reported that Man United’s new technical director, Jason Wilcox, facilitated the agreement on personal terms, thanks to his close relationship with Branthwaite’s agent, David Reeves.

We will have to wait till the commencement of the transfer window to see if Man Utd will pay Everton’s £70m fee.

Meanwhile, Branthwaite will be a boost in the Red Devils defence as they prepare to compete for trophies next season under manager Erik ten Hag who is close to penning a new contract at Old Trafford.
