Newcastle United are reportedly showing interest in acquiring Chelsea winger Noni Madueke, according to talkSPORT.

With the recent signing of Pedro Neto from Wolves, Chelsea might be open to considering offers for Madueke.

Neto, the Portuguese forward, was present at Stamford Bridge during Chelsea’s pre-season friendly against Inter Milan, where his signing was officially announced at halftime.

Madueke, an English winger, joined Chelsea in January 2023 for £28.5 million from PSV Eindhoven, where he had impressed in the Dutch league.

Although he had a slow start at Chelsea, the former Tottenham academy product began to demonstrate his potential toward the end of last season.

He finished the campaign with five Premier League goals in 23 appearances, with three of those goals coming in the final eight matches.

Despite his promising performances, Madueke started only 13 of those 23 league games due to fierce competition within Chelsea’s large squad.

With Neto’s arrival, Madueke’s playing time could be further limited. New Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca currently has an abundance of options in the forward department, and the club may need to offload players to balance the books after another summer of heavy spending.

Madueke, who has also made 20 appearances and scored seven goals for England’s Under-21 team, has attracted Newcastle’s attention as they look to bolster their squad.

The 23-year-old has had an impressive pre-season, netting three goals in five games, and was part of Maresca’s starting XI against Inter Milan on Sunday.

Newcastle, under manager Eddie Howe, are aiming to improve on last season’s seventh-place finish after securing a surprise Champions League spot in 2022/23.

The club has already strengthened their squad with the additions of goalkeepers Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy, center-backs Lloyd Kelly and Miodrag Pivas, and striker William Osula.

Lewis Hall’s permanent move to St James’ Park has also been confirmed after his loan spell last season.

In terms of departures, Newcastle have generated £68 million by selling Elliott Anderson to Nottingham Forest and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton.

If Madueke were to join Newcastle, it could signal the end of Miguel Almiron’s time at the club, as he has been previously linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
