Chelsea have entered the race to sign West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville, threatening to derail Manchester United’s pursuit of the highly-rated attacker.

After a difficult campaign with West Ham that ended in the club’s relegation to the Championship, Summerville reminded everyone of his quality with an impressive World Cup showing for the Netherlands. The winger registered two goals and two assists in four appearances, playing a key role in his country’s run before they suffered a shock exit to Morocco in the round of 32. His tournament ended in heartbreak after his penalty was saved by Bono during the decisive shootout.

Despite that disappointment, Summerville’s performances have significantly boosted his reputation, and a return to the Premier League appears increasingly likely this summer. West Ham are expected to cash in on one of their prized assets following relegation, with interest continuing to grow from several top-flight clubs.

Manchester United have identified the Dutch international as one of their leading targets as they look to strengthen the left side of their attack. Reports suggest the Red Devils currently favour a move for Summerville ahead of alternatives including Morgan Rogers, Iliman Ndiaye and Matías Fernández-Pardo.

However, Chelsea have now emerged as serious contenders for the winger’s signature. According to reports, the Blues have already held discussions as they explore a potential deal, adding further competition to what is becoming one of the summer’s most closely watched transfer battles.

With both Premier League giants eager to reinforce their attacking options, Summerville is expected to attract even more interest in the coming weeks, while West Ham face mounting pressure over the future of one of their standout talents.
