Arsenal line up shock move for former Manchester United defender as Ben White exit concerns grow
Arsenal are stepping up their search for a new right-back ahead of the new season, with former Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka emerging as one of several players under consideration should Ben White depart the club this summer.
The Gunners are preparing for every possible scenario as White continues to attract significant interest from clubs in the Premier League, across Europe and in the Middle East. While a move abroad is currently viewed as the most likely outcome, the England international’s knee ligament injury, sustained towards the end of last season, has complicated any immediate transfer plans.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding White’s future, Arsenal are determined to strengthen their defensive options. Manager Mikel Arteta is keen to add quality and depth at right-back to provide stronger competition for Jurrien Timber, who is expected to play a key role during another demanding campaign.
Sporting director Andrea Berta has overseen an extensive scouting process, with Arsenal assessing a long list of potential targets. TEAMtalk understands the club has considered as many as 11 right-back options, with Wan-Bissaka surprisingly among them.
The 27-year-old has rebuilt his reputation with consistent performances and remains one of the Premier League’s strongest one-on-one defenders. His defensive reliability, experience at the highest level and proven ability in English football make him an attractive option should Arsenal decide to pursue a deal.
Other names on Arsenal’s shortlist include Aston Villa’s versatile defender Ezri Konsa, who is capable of playing both at centre-back and right-back, while Barcelona star Jules Kounde is also admired for his versatility, technical quality and ability to fit seamlessly into Arteta’s tactical system. Arsenal are expected to continue monitoring the market before making a final decision on their preferred target.
