Arsenal announce Mosquera’s signing, shirt number

Arsenal have completed the signing of Spain under-21 international Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia.

Mosquera, who arrived at Emirates  a few days after the Gunners signed Noni Madueke from Chelsea, penned a long-term contract.

The 21-year-old defender joined the Gunners after impressive performance at Valencia, where he made 90 appearances in all competitions.

Announcing Mosquera’s arrival, the Gunners Sporting Director Andrea Berta described their new signing as one of the strongest young defenders in European football, who is an important signing for their future.

“Cristhian is a versatile defender who will strengthen our squad. We cannot wait to see him playing for us. Together with everyone at the club, we warmly welcome Cristhian and his family to Arsenal,” Berta said.

Speaking about Mosquera, manager Mikel Arteta the defender has performed consistently well with significant experience in the Spanish La Liga.

“He is an intelligent player with good pace, who can play centrally and on both sides,” Arteta said.

Mosquera will wear the number 3 shirt at Arsenal and is expected to join up with the rest of Arsenal squad on their ongoing pre-season tour in Asia.

Arsenal will now focus on completing their signing of their new striker Viktor Gyokeres.
