Man United Urged to Strengthen Midfield with High-Energy Former Chelsea Star

Manchester United are being encouraged to make a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher as they look to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the new season.

Having focused early in the transfer window on bolstering their attacking line, United have already secured the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and are closing in on a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

Discussions have also taken place regarding Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, with a potential move under consideration.

However, following the departure of Christian Eriksen earlier this summer, midfield reinforcements have become a growing priority for the club.

Gallagher, who previously played for Chelsea before joining Atletico Madrid in a £34 million move, has now been suggested as an ideal fit to bring energy and intensity to United’s midfield.

Former United midfielder Gordon Strachan believes Gallagher could play a vital role under Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim, who are looking to reshape the squad.

“Manchester United don’t just need more bite in midfield — they need legs, real legs, real pressing and energy,” Strachan told OLBG. “Can Conor Gallagher bring that? Absolutely. He has the work rate and intensity to lift the entire midfield.”

With United continuing to reshape their squad across multiple areas, Gallagher is viewed as a dynamic and proven Premier League talent who could offer balance, especially in high-tempo matches.

Whether United will make a formal approach remains to be seen, but calls for Gallagher’s inclusion in their plans are growing louder.
