Arsenal Shift Transfer Focus After Newcastle’s Stance on Striker

Arsenal have shifted their focus in the transfer market, bringing both positive and negative news for Newcastle United.

The Gunners are now in talks to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, after opting not to pursue Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

Newcastle have made it clear that Isak is not for sale, and Arsenal have respected that stance by turning their attention elsewhere. This decision highlights Newcastle’s strong position, as Isak still has three years remaining on his current contract, making it difficult for any club to tempt him away.

Arsenal have long been linked with Isak, with several former players such as Paul Merson and Theo Walcott publicly backing the Swedish striker as an ideal signing for Mikel Arteta’s side. Arteta himself has previously praised Isak, describing him as a “top player.”

Earlier this year, Arsenal supporters even gave Isak a warm reception outside the Emirates Stadium, with fans applauding him as he arrived with the Newcastle squad for their Carabao Cup semi-final tie. One fan was even heard saying “welcome home” as the forward entered the stadium.

Despite this admiration, Arsenal have now made a decisive move for Gyokeres, who has been in excellent form for Sporting Lisbon. This marks a shift in their transfer strategy, leaving Newcastle relieved but also aware that Arsenal are determined to strengthen their attack.

Talks with Sporting are ongoing as Arsenal look to finalise a deal for Gyokeres ahead of the new season.
