Arsenal and Chelsea Given Boost in Race for Benfica Defender

Arsenal and Chelsea have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Benfica defender Antonio Silva, following new reports from Portugal.
According to A Bola, Silva has turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal. The Saudi club reportedly proposed a five-year contract with a salary of €7 million (£6 million) per year, alongside a transfer bid of €45 million (£38 million) to Benfica. However, Silva rejected the offer, signalling his intent to remain in Europe.
The highly rated 21-year-old centre-back has enjoyed another standout season with Benfica, making 46 appearances across all competitions. His performances have caught the attention of several major clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Juventus, who are closely monitoring his situation.
Silva is regarded as one of Europe’s top defensive prospects and is under contract with Benfica until 2027. Despite Benfica falling short in the Primeira Liga title race last season, Silva’s consistent displays have only strengthened his growing reputation.
The latest reports suggest that Silva’s departure from Benfica this summer is “practically certain,” with Benfica expecting strong bids from top European clubs.
Arsenal and Chelsea are now seen as frontrunners for his signature, though any potential deal could require a fee close to his £86 million release clause.
With the summer transfer window in full swing, Silva’s future looks set to dominate headlines in the coming weeks as interest continues to build.
