Nani Weighs in on Gyokeres Saga Amid Arsenal and Manchester United Interest

Former Manchester United winger Nani has weighed in on the ongoing transfer speculation surrounding Viktor Gyokeres, insisting the striker will remain professional and report for pre-season training with Sporting CP—unless a deal is finalised beforehand.
Gyokeres, 27, has been one of Europe’s standout performers, netting an astonishing 54 goals in 52 appearances last season as he fired Sporting to a domestic double. Unsurprisingly, the Swedish international has attracted strong interest from Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United.
Both clubs have reportedly held discussions with Gyokeres’ representatives, with Arsenal appearing to be the player’s preferred destination. Last month, Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta met with Gyokeres’ agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, to explore a potential deal. However, Arsenal’s initial offer—£46.8 million plus £8.5 million in performance-based add-ons—was rejected by Sporting.
The Portuguese club’s president, Frederico Varandas, has since expressed frustration, accusing Cetinkaya of making negotiations unnecessarily difficult.
Amid reports that Gyokeres could go on strike to force a move, Nani has dismissed such claims. The ex-Sporting and United star believes the forward’s commitment and professionalism will prevail.
“Viktor is a top professional,” Nani said. “He knows what it means to respect a club and its supporters. Until anything is agreed, I expect him to return and give 100% in pre-season.”
As the transfer window progresses, both Arsenal and Manchester United remain keen, but Sporting’s firm stance and Gyokeres’ high valuation continue to be significant hurdles.
The coming weeks will be crucial as all parties look to find common ground.
