Arsenal Set to Finalise Martin Zubimendi Transfer Amid Midfield Overhaul

Arsenal are on the verge of completing the long-anticipated signing of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, with the deal expected to be finalised imminently.

The move marks a significant step in Mikel Arteta’s efforts to reshape his midfield following several key departures.

So far, Arsenal’s transfer activity has largely centred on outgoings. Jorginho and Kieran Tierney have departed on free transfers to Flamengo and Celtic, respectively, while Nuno Tavares and Marquinhos have been sold to Lazio and Cruzeiro. Thomas Partey is also expected to leave after his contract expired without a renewal.

While the club has not officially confirmed any new signings, multiple sources indicate that deals are in place for Brentford midfielder Christian Nørgaard and Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. These additions are expected to provide depth and experience in key areas.

However, it is Zubimendi’s arrival that has generated the most excitement. Long admired by Arsenal for his intelligence, composure, and tactical versatility, the Spanish international has been described as a “complete player” and is seen as a natural successor to Partey in the defensive midfield role.

Interest from Real Madrid had posed a potential threat to the transfer, but Arsenal are believed to have honoured a special request from the player’s camp to move swiftly and decisively. With formalities nearly complete, Zubimendi is set to become a pivotal part of Arteta’s evolving squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
