Serie A Giants Keen as Antonio Conte ‘Personally Requests’ £38m Man United Star

Manchester United are actively reshaping their squad this summer, and one of their more high-profile young players, Rasmus Højlund, could be on the move.

The club is in the market for a proven No. 9, with names like Viktor Gyökeres, Hugo Ekitike, and Victor Osimhen all linked as potential solutions to the team’s goal-scoring struggles under new manager Rúben Amorim.

United endured a difficult 2024/25 Premier League campaign, finishing as the fifth-lowest scoring side. Despite the promise shown by Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, the duo combined for just seven league goals—a figure far below expectations for a club of United’s stature. As a result, reinforcements in attack are being prioritised.

While Zirkzee’s future remains uncertain, Højlund is the more likely of the two to depart. Signed from Atalanta for £64 million in 2023, United are reportedly unwilling to sell him at a significant loss. However, his departure could bring in a substantial transfer fee that would aid their rebuild.

Interest in the 22-year-old Danish striker has been strongest from Serie A, with Napoli and Inter Milan monitoring his situation. Most notably, Napoli’s new manager Antonio Conte is reported to have “personally requested” Højlund as a key signing for his squad rebuild.

With both Manchester United and Napoli aiming to reshape their respective attacks this summer, negotiations over Højlund’s future could become a defining storyline in the weeks ahead.
