Arsenal Win Transfer Race for Top Striker After Tottenham Rejection

Arsenal appear to have won a key battle in the transfer market, with reports indicating that one of Europe’s top young strikers has said yes to a move to the Emirates Stadium, turning down interest from rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the process.

A lack of a natural, clinical number nine was a defining weakness in Arsenal’s campaign last season. Despite contributions from Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, both players struggled to consistently deliver goals—Jesus due to injury and Havertz due to being played out of position. As a result, manager Mikel Arteta and Sporting Director Andrea Berta have made signing a top striker a major summer priority.

One of their top targets is Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig. The 21-year-old Slovenian international had a standout 2024/25 season, scoring 21 goals and providing six assists in 45 appearances across all competitions. Known for his pace, technical skill, and confidence on the ball, Sesko has been described by former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino as “extraordinary” for his ability to “run at defenders and go around them.”

According to German media sources, Sesko has now given the green light to a move to Arsenal, snubbing Spurs in the process. His decision marks a significant boost for Arsenal as they aim to reinforce their squad and mount a renewed title challenge next season.

Negotiations with RB Leipzig are ongoing, with Arsenal hopeful of finalising the deal in the coming weeks.
