World football body FIFA has made changes to transfer policy ahead of the 2025 club world cup.

FIFA in a statement on Thursday approved interim transfer rules ahead of this next tournament.

This means players can change teams and play at the Club World Cup in the USA next June-July.

According to the new update, the move will let players whose contracts expire on June 30, 2025, to secure a new deal early as free agents for one of the 32 teams.

These teams include Spanish side Real Madrid, Premier League champions Manchester City, German club Bayern Munich and French Ligue 1 giants PSG.

Once the deals are agreed between clubs, the FIFA transfer amendments would permit players to play for a new club for two weeks from mid-June before their formal contract expires.

This is because the tournament remains technically a part of the current season.

However, players will not be able to play for two different clubs during the tournament being staged in 12 stadiums.

Meanwhile, there have been calls for footballers’ strike by some players owing to back to back matches in different league, with little or no room for rest ahesd of their next match.
