Arsenal suffer set back in race for Bologna star
Arsenal may have to turn their focus elsewhere for a new defender this summer transfer window.
This comes amid recent reports that the Gunners have suffered a major blow in their bid to sign Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.
A report via The Mirror disclosed that Calafiori’s transfer to the North London club has been stalled and now under threat as the likelihood of it happening this summer has reduced.
The report claimed Bologna and Basel are in a stand-off over how much the defender’s sell-on-fee should be.
With the current situation, the Italian Serie A side are threatening to pull the plug on the deal.
This comes after the Gunners had already reached personal agreement with Calafiori, who has also shown interest to move to Emirates Stadium.
According to the reports, the North London giants had offered the defender a five-year contract, which is valid until June 2029.
Arsenal will be hoping Bologna and Basel come around before the summer transfer window closes if they would be signing Calafiori to their squad.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are keen on stabilising their team with new additions ahead of next season where they will be playing in the Premier League and the Champions League again.
