Chelsea Icon Advocates for Signing Former Arsenal Star This Summer

Frank Leboeuf believes his former club, Chelsea, should consider bringing Granit Xhaka back to the Premier League by signing the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder this summer.

Such a move would undoubtedly stir emotions in North London, as the Swiss star played nearly 300 games for Arsenal from 2016 to 2023.

Xhaka departed the Emirates for Germany last year and had an exceptional season under Xabi Alonso, winning both the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal.

Leboeuf sees the 31-year-old as an ideal addition to Chelsea’s midfield and thinks the club should pursue Xhaka during this transfer window.

While there is no indication that this move is currently being considered, the Frenchman remains enthusiastic about the prospect.

“I believe Chelsea should sign Granit Xhaka. He’s incredibly impressive, and I think they missed an opportunity when he left Arsenal,” Leboeuf told BoyleSports. “He has been phenomenal for Switzerland at the EUROs and was also Leverkusen’s Player of the Season. He would fit perfectly into Chelsea’s midfield alongside Enzo and Caicedo. He could be the missing piece of the puzzle for them.”

While Chelsea is likely focusing on acquiring a new striker this summer, with Napoli star Victor Osimhen being linked, Leboeuf has also recommended a few other options.

“I highly rate Victor Osimhen and feel he would be an excellent striker for Chelsea,” Leboeuf said. “He’s strong, good in the air, and a natural goal-scorer despite some issues last season.”

Leboeuf also suggests that Chelsea should consider strikers from Lens and Lille, who have historically been successful in developing and selling top strikers for significant profits. “Jonathan David and Lois Openda have been superb in the French league and did not cost much. If I were Chelsea, I would look at signing Elhi Wahi from Lens. He is a quality player and could have a similar impact to Drogba, who joined from Marseille for a bargain fee.”
