Nico Williams’ Arsenal and Chelsea Transfer Challenge Becomes Clear After New Statement
Spain and Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams has been linked with moves to Arsenal and Chelsea this summer.
However, Athletic Bilbao president Jon Uriarte has expressed frustration over constant speculation about the young player’s future.
Williams, who has been instrumental in Spain’s progress to the Euro 2024 final against England, has also shown impressive form for Athletic Bilbao.
Last season, he made 31 appearances in La Liga, scoring five goals and providing 14 assists, helping his team secure a fifth-place finish and Europa League qualification.
Given his performances, it’s no surprise that Williams has attracted interest from Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as Liverpool.
However, Uriarte has been vocal about his desire to retain the talented winger, emphasizing that Williams is a key part of Bilbao’s future plans.
“We have a top project with no limits and we’re able to keep top players like Nico Williams at the club,” Uriarte stated during a press conference on Thursday, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. “There are too many questions always asked to Nico about his future. We ask for respect.”
Williams himself has addressed the speculation in a recent interview with La1, reaffirming his commitment to Athletic Bilbao. “I’ve just signed a new deal at Athletic a few weeks ago, and I feel very good there. I’m very happy at Athletic. It’s very strange to receive questions about my future,” he said.
As Williams continues to shine on the international stage, the interest from top clubs is unlikely to wane. However, both he and Athletic Bilbao seem determined to focus on their current projects rather than entertain transfer rumors.
