Euro: Rooney surprised by this Chelsea star omission from England team

Former Manchester United star, Wayne Rooney in a recent statement shared his take on Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell’s omission from England football squad amid the ongoing Euro.

Rooney stressed that he was surprised at Chilwell not making the Three Lions squad for Euro 2024.

The former Red Devils striker opined that Chilwell would have brought stability in the left-back position for England in the tournament.

In a statement via the Daily Mail, Rooney who picked Tripper or Joe Gomez to play at the left back for England stated that he was surprised and shocked that Chilwell didn’t get picked – just for the balance of having a left-footed player there.

Rooney spoke highly about Chilwell’s role at Chelsea, adding that he has played well for England in the past.

The former footballer described the Blues defender as a good left-back who has in several tournaments and could have helped England in this year’s Euro tournament hosted by Germany.

Meanwhile, England will play their next game against Slovakia in the Round of 16 this weekend as they hope to move to the next stage of the tournament.
