Former Arsenal star Theo Walcott has encouraged the Gunners to seal a deal a with Aston Villa for striker Ollie Watkins in the summer transfer window.

Walcott in his statement compared the England star to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Ahead of the next transfer window, Arsenal have been linked with moves for a new striker to bolster Mikel Arteta’s attacking options.

Sharing his take on the Gunners’ plans for the summer, Walcott told Premier League Productions: “Well, you look at their goals tally right now. They will probably invest in a striker and that player could well have been playing on the opposite side [at the weekend].

Asked if he was referencing Watkins, Walcott responded: “I am indeed. I feel he is the sort of player that Arsenal would look at. What I really like about Ollie Watkins is that, you look at his style and you think he is a winger.

“He reminds me, and it is one of the best compliments I am going to give him, but he reminds me of Thierry Henry.”

Should Arsenal miss out in winning the Premier League title against this season, they would intensify their move for a new striker.
