Former England star, Alan Shearer has reacted to Chelsea’s recent defeat to Newcastle as he singled out the Blues captain, Reece James for criticism.

Chelsea during their embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Newcastle saw James shown a second yellow in the 73rd minute for a foul on Anthony Gordon.

The right-back, who returned to action for the Blues’ last three top-flight fixtures after a hamstring problem, will now serve a one-match suspension.

Speaking on BBC Radio, Shearer said: “Chelsea were terrible in the second half.

“They were made to look terrible by Newcastle, who put them under pressure.

“Kieran Trippier played really well, Reece James didn’t. Anthony Gordon gave him a really tough time and he got frustrated.

“Gordon seems to be really enjoying his time at Newcastle. A bit of frustration from James and he got sent off.”
