Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas in a statement has revealed what late Queen Elizabeth told him about Arsenal.

Fabregas insisted the Queen was an Arsenal fan as he joined the rest of the world to mourn the passing of the monarch who died on Thursday at the age of 96.

Queen Elizabeth was Britain’s longest-serving monarch and was said to be a keen lover of sport.

Fabregas claimed Her Majesty was an Arsenal fan, and there are some facts to back it up.

Back in 2007, the Queen invited Arsenal to Buckingham Palace with the former striker, Thierry Henry and former manager, Arsene Wenger, and Fabregas, part of the team.

“It seems the Queen follows football and she told us she was an Arsenal fan,” he told Spanish radio.

“She appeared to definitely know who I was and we exchanged a few special words.”

The Evening Standard also quoted a royal source at the time who said: “Her Majesty has been fond of Arsenal for over 50 years,” and that her late mother was a self-confessed fan of the Gunners.
