EPL: Merson says he would be shocked if Man Utd defeat Brentford

Man Utd will return to action on Saturday when they face Brentford in their second game of the new season in the EPL.

On a normal day, many would see the match as a walkover for the Red Devils but not this season as they have been struggling.

Arsenal legend and football pundit Paul Merson doesn’t expect Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils to emerge winner against Brentford.

Merson said it would be a thing of shock to him if Manchester United beat their hosts.

The game comes after the Red Devils suffered their first defeat last weekend against Brighton right at their home in a game that ended in a 2-1 scoreline.

“Manchester United were Manchester United, weren’t they? They’re no different from last season, and I don’t see them winning this game,” Merson told Sportskeeda.

“They don’t have an identity. I’m not sure if Cristiano Ronaldo will start this game.

“Manchester United are all over the place at the moment, and I’d be shocked if they pulled off a victory here. I don’t see Brentford losing this match, and a draw is a fairly likely outcome.”
