EPL: Rangnick reacts to Man Utd draw vs Newcastle United

Man Utd manager and Germany international Ralf Rangnick has reacted to his side 1-1 draw vs Newcastle United in the EPL on Monday night.

Man Utd went behind during the match as Newcastle had the early lead thanks to a sensational Allan Saint-Maximin goal before Edinson Cavani came off the bench to equalise.

Rangnick, in a post-match statement, said he didn’t like the Res Devils performance as he was left unimpressed by the players’ lack of energy and failure to win the second ball.

He told Sky Sports after the game at St James’ Park: “I didn’t like the performance at all. Today we didn’t control the game apart from very few moments. It’s all about energy, physicality and who wins the second balls. In all those areas we weren’t at our best. The good thing is we got a point but the performance needs to be better.”

When asked if he would stick with his 4-2-2-2 formation Rangnick replied: “I don’t know. Today it was not a question of formation – it was a question of how aggressive we were, in those areas we need to get better.

“In three days we have the next game, at home to Burnley, then Wolves at home. We can do better, I know the players can, but we have to do it. We shouldn’t look for excuses – we need to be better and get more physical. I was not happy with our performance with the ball or when we had to press. It’s about what kind of energy mode we play with the ball and without the ball.”
