This Chelsea player blamed for defeat to West Ham

Former Man Utd star Rio Ferdinand has reacted to Chelsea’s latest defeat to West Ham in a 3-2 scoreline on Saturday.

Ferdinand, in his statement, blamed Chelsea’s goalie and Senegal international Edouard Mendy for the defeat.

Ferdinand stressed that the Senegalese was guilty of trying to play ‘perfect football’ after his error in the defeat.

Mendy failed to clear a poor pass from midfielder, Jorginho and ended up conceding a penalty in the process after West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen put him under pressure.

Asked whether the blame lies with Jorginho or Mendy, Ferdinand told BT Sport, “Mostly with the goalkeeper; he has plenty of opportunity to clear this.”

“Jorginho leaves the short pass, yes it is short but the goalkeeper gets there. Clear it straight away.

“He gets another chance to clear it and takes another touch then all of a sudden its panic stations and he gives away a penalty.”

“Instead of taking that touch, give a throw in away. The problem is he has been caught trying to play perfect football. In those situations, it’s not about that.”
