West Ham vs Chelsea: No plan to drop Mendy – Tuchel
Chelsea manager and Germany international Thomas Tuchel, in a recent statement, disclosed that he has no plan of dropping goalkeeper and Senegal international Edouard Mendy from his squad.
This comes after West Ham defeated Chelsea in a 3-2 scoreline on Saturday.
Following the match’s outcome, there were suggestions that Mendy should be dropped out of the Blues squad.
So far, the Senegal goalkeeper has established himself as one of the league’s best goalies since his £22 million moves from Rennes to Stamford Bridge last year.
But Mendy had a terrible experience against West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday.
He gave away a penalty in the first half by bringing down Jarrod Bowen following Jorginho’s loose back-pass.
Mendy was also caught out for West Ham’s winner in the 87th minute.
Despite these errors, the Chelsea manager has stressed that Mendy will keep his place during Chelsea’s busy winter schedule.
When asked during his post-match press conference if he would consider dropping Mendy by beIN Sports, Tuchel shook his said and replied: “I don’t think so.”
Chelsea will return to action on Wednesday when they play Zenit in the Uefa Champions League.
