Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur to battle to sign Schalke O4 forward

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have allegedly made it clear to Schalke 04 that they are keen on signing American forward Matthew Hoppe.

The American has grabbed the attention in a usually disappointing season for Schalke, who are very nearly being relegated from the Bundesliga.

The 20-year-old made his breakthrough in November and has proceeded to score five goals in 15 German top flight outings, three of those strikes coming against Hoffenheim.

Schalke won’t stop Matthew Hoppe from leaving the club if an offer is made this summer and, as indicated by Transfermarkt, Liverpool and Tottenham will both test the Royal Blues’ purpose.

It is imagined that a proposal of £9m will be sufficient to prise the American, who has also been connected with Manchester United and Manchester City, away from Schalke.
