Burnley vs Arsenal: Why penalty was not awarded

The Gunners on Saturday moved to Turf Moor to play Burnley in a game that ended in a 1-1 draw.

While Arsenal had chances to score more than one goal during the match, they didn’t utilize their chances well enough and ended up sharing three points with the host side.

However one of the highlights from the match was the penalty that was not awarded to Arsenal in the second half.

Arsenal were left angry in the 75th minute when Nicolas Pepe’s touch inside Burnley’s box led the ball to hit Erik Pieters’ outstretched arm and had expected a penalty to be awarded for the action.

But the Gunners were not awarded a penalty following a VAR review.

This has sparked different reactions after the match, while some believed a penalty should have been awarded, others stated that the referee took the right decision.

Well, the Premier League has now issued a statement on the issue, which read: “The ball hit him from close proximity and he had no time to react.”

The Premier league stressed that it was not given on-field, and the VAR did not think it was a clear error.

Arsenal’s latest result vs. Burnley means they are now in the tenth position on the log table  with 38 points from 27 games.

The Gunners next game will be against Olympiacos in the Uefa Europa League on Thursday.
