Former Chelsea and now Fenerbahce manager, Jose Mourinho, in a recent statement reacted to his home country Portugal’s exit from the Euro 24.

This is the first time Mourinho will speak since Portugal were kicked out from the tournament hosted in Germany.

Recall that the former Chelsea boss had named his country as one of the favourites to win the tournament.

Portugal coached by Roberto Martinez finished top of Group F and saw off Slovenia on penalties in the last 16.

However, the Portuguese side were eliminated by France in the quarter final after another shoot-out.

Mourinho in a statement via Sport TV admitted that Portugal’s 2-1 defeat to Croatia in the build up to the Euros raised alarm bells.

The manager stressed that Portugal wasn’t fantastic, despite reaching the quarter-finals as he expected more.

Mourinho who was at the National Stadium for the Portugal vs Croatia match, said it didn’t smell good and he didn’t get a great feeling about it.

The former Chelsea manager, however, stressed that Portugal had a young team, apart from the two veterans Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe.

He believes they still have years ahead of them especially with the World Cup around the corner.
