Arsenal hands Calafiori unusual shirt number
Arsenal newest signing Riccardo Calafiori has continue to make headlines after the Gunners announced his arrival at the club.
Barely hours after Calafiori was unveiled, the North London side have handed the No33 shirt to the Italian centre-back.
Recall that Arsenal signed the defender in a deal worth around £42million from Bologna to boost Mikel Arteta’s defence ahead of next season.
He is the Gunners’ second major signing of the summer, following loanee David Raya’s permanent transfer from Brentford.
Former Arsenal players who have worn the No33 were almost all goalkeepers such as Mat Ryan, Matt Macey, Petr Cech and most recently Arthur Okonkwo.
However, reports revealed Calafiori personally requested to take the shirt having worn it at his previous clubs Bologna and Basel over the last two seasons.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are currently in the US for their pre-season games and they will hope to include the new defender in their upcoming games against Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon before they start the season with their first game against Wolves on August 17.
The Gunners will hope to unseat Man City from the top of the Premier League table after missing chances to win the title two times in a row to the Citizens.
