Why Man Utd want to offer Lingard a new contract

Manchester United are reportedly working on handing Jesse Lingard a new deal that could see him remain at Old Trafford.

Recall that Lingard struggled for game time at Old Trafford in the first half of last season and was later transferred to West Ham on a loan deal in January.

However, Lingard’s move to West Hammer has seen him excel at the club.

He has scored nine times and registered five assists in 16 appearances for the Hammers.

Lingard’s performance for the David Moyes’s side also helped them secure a spot in the UEFA Europa League spot for next season.

Following his performance at West Ham, the Red Devils are said to be planning to give him a new contract and bring him back to Old Trafford.

On the other hand, West Ham have revealed plans to sign Lingard permanently as his current contract with the Red Devils is due to end in June 2022.

However, the whole choice will be left for the player to decide. It is believed that Lingard will only accept a new deal with Man Utd if he is assured of regular playing chances in the Red Devils squad.

Considering the numbers of attackers available at Old Trafford, it would best for Lingard to secure a permanent deal with West Ham.
