Why Man City sold Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling to Arsenal and Chelsea
Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville in a recent statement has claimed to know why Manchester City permitted Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling to move their domestic rivals in the last summer transfer window.
While Jesus completed a move to Arsenal, Sterling joined Chelsea.
The two players were famous for their key roles in their Premier League dominance under Pep Guardiola in recent seasons.
According to Neville, Julian Alvarez’s arrival is the reason Guardiola sanctioned moves for Jesus and Sterling.
Alvarez has enhanced his burgeoning reputation during Argentina’s run to the 2022 World Cup final.
“I was told a year ago when City let Jesus and Sterling go – because I was quite surprised that City let both go at the same time – that this kid [Alvarez] was the reason.
“Someone said that to me, that is quite close to City, that he was the reason and they didn’t want to block his path,” Neville said via Sky Sports’ World Cup podcast.
