Transfer News: Spanish side confirms failed Chelsea bid for their star defender
Thomas Tuchel might not be adding Jules Kounde to his team this season as Sevilla sporting director Monchi revealed that the blues are yet to make a satisfactory offer.
Chelsea have been linked with Kounde for the past few weeks and they had to let go Kurt Zouma in a bid to raise funds for the Sevilla defender.
However, this has not gotten the blues their top target as they’ve not been able to agree a deal with Sevilla.
The Spanish side are requesting for Kounde’s
£68m release clause while Chelsea are reportedly willing to pay nothing less than £48m.
Though Chelsea are reportedly preparing the last bid before the transfer window closes, Monchi has given an update about the deal.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Monchi stated that the only written, formal offer from Chelsea came last Wednesday, around 5pm.
Monchi noted that Sevilla weren’t satisfied with the offer, and it was linked to Chelsea selling a player, though it was a decent fee it didn’t meet their criteria.
He insisted that Sevilla have not spoken with Chelsea since Friday night and they decided that it was best Jules didn’t travel to Elche noting that it’s normal for players to be affected by news of any kind.
Monchi added that last year Kounde had interest from Manchester City and now Chelsea this year noting his release clause never went up to €90m, it has always been €80m
