Pochettino speaks on signing new striker
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has downplayed reason for the club to sign a new striker in the ongoing January transfer window.
One of the challenges the Blues have faced this season is their inability to score goals.
While they were recently without Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson during their game against Fulham on Saturday, the Blues were to emerge winners thanks to a goal from Cole Palmer.
So far, Chelsea have been linked with moves for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
But the deals are considered very difficult to complete this month.
Speaking after the match against Fulham on Saturday, Pochettino said: “I never said that we need a centre-forward. No, because after that we create a problem, me with my people. I never said that. I didn’t say that yesterday in my press conference that we need [a striker].
“I said that we are working like another club, trying to assess and see the market, all the different situations that can appear. The most important thing is this club is ready to act in one or another direction but I never said we need to add another player in the squad.”
