Pep Guardiola Affirms Commitment to Julian Alvarez Amid Arsenal and Chelsea Transfer Interest
Pep Guardiola has reassured Julian Alvarez of his importance to Manchester City, amidst transfer speculation linking the forward with Arsenal and Chelsea.
Despite rumors of a potential move, Guardiola confirmed he is counting on the 24-year-old ahead of the new Premier League season.
Alvarez, who has netted 36 goals in 103 appearances for City, has hinted at a possible departure due to limited playing time behind Erling Haaland.
However, Guardiola emphasized Alvarez’s return to the team following his stint with Argentina’s Olympic squad in Paris.
Asked for an update on Alvarez after City’s 4-2 pre-season win over Chelsea, Guardiola said, “No news. I count on him, but he mentioned that decisions will be made together. He needs to rest, and once he’s ready, we’ll welcome him back with open arms.”
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, aiming to enhance his attacking lineup, is reportedly interested in Alvarez, potentially making him the third City player to join after Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Chelsea is also eyeing Alvarez as they seek a new striker for Enzo Maresca’s replacement.
Former Arsenal defender William Gallas believes Alvarez could elevate the Gunners, stating, “Julian Alvarez would be a great signing for Arsenal. He brings significant winning experience and ambition, which could take Arsenal to the next level.”
As the new season approaches, Guardiola’s affirmation indicates that Alvarez remains a key part of Manchester City’s plans.
