Onana reveals why he chose shirt No. 24 instead of No. 1 at Man Utd
Manchester United’s new goalkeeper Andre Onana has opened on why he chose shirt No 24 as he replaces David De Gea, who exited Old Trafford this summer.
Onana, who is the Red Devils number one goalkeeper could have chosen the no.1 shirt, which was vacated by David De Gea when he left Old Trafford at the beginning of the month.
The no. 1 is known to be the squad number for a goalkeeper, with the likes of Onana’s idol Edwin van der Sar and Peter Schmeichel, wearing it during their time at Old Trafford.
Onana, who opted for shirt No. 24 said he chose it because it represented his day and month of birth and has been using it before his move to Man Utd
“I just like that number. It’s my birthday. My date of birth,”
he said, in his first interview after signing.
“For me it’s great, it’s beautiful.
“I like this shirt because [in] this shirt, this number we have done a lot and I hope it will continue.”
