Man City distance themselves from link with Lionel Messi
Premier League toppers, Manchester City as of last summer were one of the two top clubs that showed interest in signing Lionel Messi from Barcelona.
The other club was Paris Saint Germain PSG.
At some point during the summer transfer windoe, the reports had it that Manchester City had a higher chance of signing Messi and the premier league side were already preparing a deal for him.
Messi had also requested a transfer from the Catalans, however, the request was not granted and the Argentine star was forced to remain at Camp Nou.
Ahead of the next summer transfer window, Man City were once again linked with moves to sign Messi but the Citizens in a recent report have distanced themselves from any link with the top-rated player.
A report had stated that City have tabled a revised offer for Messi but BBC Sport has been told by a club source it is not true and that no offers have been made, either in the summer, or since and there are currently no talks.
Messi’s contract with the Catalans will end this season and he will be willing to move to a new club as Barcelona’s form this season have been very poor, their recent defeat to PSG in the UCL was a big blow.
